Danny Siegel was USY’s International President in 1962.  He became one of the world’s foremost experts in microphilanthropy and through his tireless teachings Danny has modeled Jewish philanthropy for generations of teenagers.  From 1981, when he created it, to 2009, when he closed it, Danny was the heart and soul of the Ziv Tzedakah fund.  He is also a poet as well as the author of many works of prose.

The USY Alumni Association is proud to present “Mitzvah Hero Month” in honor of Danny Siegel. This November, we are proud to celebrate Danny Siegel for his dedication to tzedekah and mitzvot, unwavering advocacy and for being a great dugma to the Jewish community.  This Social Action/Tikkun Olam program named for Danny will help train Jewish teens in the practical and ethical dimensions of social action work.

There is no better way to pay tribute to Danny than by “paying it forward” with Tikkun Olam - - repairing the world.  We welcome USYers, synagogues and the Conservative Jewish community to engage in Tikun Olam and social action projects during the month of November and beyond.

USY Alumni Association Launches Inaugural Annual Campaign

In an effort to provide additional support for the future vitality of USY, the USY Alumni Association is pleased to announce its inaugural annual campaign.  Our mission is to create new leadership development programs and to provide scholarship opportunities for our young people.  Our vision is for every teenager to have the opportunity to participate in USY’s many exciting programs, including USY on Wheels, Israel Pilgrimage and Nativ.

The goal for our first year is $300,000. Certainly it is an optimistic goal, and we know we can be successful if you, our alumni who know the power of these programs first hand, will support the campaign.  Raising $300,000 will help increase participation to USY on Wheels and Pilgrimage, by 50% thus making it possible to welcome 100 additional teens to each program.

Remember how meaningful your USY experience was - - swimming in the Dead Sea, climbing Masada, late night sing-alongs with friends, spending Shabbat with a host family or davening at sunrise at the Grand Canyon.  “Pay it forward” and provide a teenager the opportunity to share those same wonderful experiences. Consider supporting the campaign in two specific ways: first, make a financial donation to the campaign NOW. Donations can be made on line by clicking here or by completing the donation form here.  You will also have the personal satisfaction of sending a Jewish teenager on the same meaningful journey you traveled. Your generous support will help maintain an environment where Jewish teenagers unite to enhance their sense of Jewish identity, celebrate their Jewishness, get a hands-on understanding of the importance of social action and philanthropy, acquire leadership skills and build lifelong friendships.

Join our efforts and help us reach our goal so we can continue to
change the future of Conservative Judaism...one soul at a time.
